We got to my cousins Alvin's home in Mississippi yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock.
Alvin greeted us as we came down their very long driveway. It was a beautiful sight. Their property is gorgeous. Directly in front of us was the pond. To the right was a root cellar up the hill. To the left was the main house and Alvin's work barn or basically his' Man Cave.' I'll talk more about his cave later.
We had a wonderful supper of country fried steaks, mashed potatoes, field peas, biscuits and home made fig jam. (Hey, I'm on vacation.) We sat & visited until Mona (Alvin's wife) and I were just about falling asleep.
This morning we got up in time to see Mona off to work. I was then ready to see the three story 'Man Cave.'
This structure has a tornado cellar with four beds, the entrance plus two escape hatches. It is stocked with foods, water and very basic plumbing. He built it because of tornados and after what Hurricane Katrina did to the place I think it was wise.
The first floor is his shop with all his equipment plus an elevator. His father worked with him and climbing stairs became too difficult, thus the elevator. The second floor was his wood working shop. Alvin is an accomplished wood worker.
Then he toured us the property - 30 acers. I will let the pictures speak.
